Debate for PSCHE

Noisy Classroom loves working with our longterm partner, Clapton Girls’ Academy, with support from Linklaters LLP. This term we have been supporting teachers across the curriculum to use debate in the classroom, helping to build cultural capital with topic-based videos and developing a whole school PSCHE project.

Years 7-11 took part in fortnightly sessions where they read source material relating to historical and current racial discrimination and considered questions that were raised. The project culminated with all years taking part in a one hour session where they debated the motion “This house supports the use of affirmative action”.

Feedback from the teachers said that they enjoyed “students whose voices are rarely heard speaking more” and that “the wonderful and thoughtfully prepared lesson” led to “engaging discussions with the pupils”.
