Debating Shakespeare in Newcastle

This week Alice has been up in Newcastle, working with pupils from Seaton Sluice Middle School and Whytrig Community Middle School.

As part of a project we are working on with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, each school took part in a full day ‘Debating Shakespeare’ workshop.

The play in focus was Romeo and Juliet and pupils were tackling two big questions; Are Romeo and Juliet Good Role Models, and, Are Romeo and Juliet’s Parents To Blame For Their Deaths?

Though a variety of games and exercises the pupils explored the issues and the days culminated with two full-length debates.

We have worked with The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust to develop a series of ‘Debating Shakespeare’ resources which are available, for free, for schools on their website.

Please get in touch with Debbie if you are interested in bringing our Debating Shakespeare workshops to your school.
