UoN Debating Club

On Tuesday October 30th, in partnership with the University of Northampton, we worked with 6 local secondary schools to launch the UoN Debating Club.

Six teachers and 30 students came for a day of introductory debating training, to help them set up their own debating clubs back at school. Alice worked with the teachers, to help them get to grips with how to run a debating club and to also look more widely at embedding debating within the culture at their school. Meanwhile, Noisy Classroom mentors Georgie and Daniel worked with the students, develop their analytical and public speaking skills, and finishing the day with six practice debates.

The schools are now hard at work trying to set up their clubs. We will meet with them again in December to celebrate their progress and run a mini competition – we are looking forward to some fantastic debates!

Thanks to the University of Northampton for creating and organising this programme, and the Northampton International Academy for hosting the workshop and celebration day.
