Up For Debate Final 2017

On July 6th the eight finalist schools in the PiXL Up For Debate competition came to Harrow School in London for the Up For Debate Final.

It was a fantastic day, with all the students showcasing the terrific debating skills they have learned and developed over the last year.

After a tough three initial debates, Hinchingbrooke School and Cardinal Newman School went through to the Grand Final. The motion for the final was ‘This House Believes That Rich Countries Should Give Significantly More Money in Foreign Aid’.

It was a stellar debate, with well-argued and persuasive speeches on both sides. However, in the end the judges awarded the debate to the team in Opposition and named Hinchingbrooke School the winners of this year’s Up For Debate competition and the new National Champions.

Congratulations to Hinchingbrooke and all of the teams in the final.

This has been the second year of the Up For Debate competition and it has been a pleasure working with  all of the students and teachers involved in the programme.

A huge thank you to Hannah, Jason and the rest of the team at PiXL for their hard work and dedication in helping to organise and deliver the programme. Thank you to Richard, Rhydian, James and Ellie for coming and judging on Thursday. And finally, thank you to all of the teachers who have enabled this programme to be such a success.
