Scholars’ Debates Series

We are piloting our new Scholars’ Debate Series in June 2025.

The pilot will focus on the theme “Finance and Economics” and is supported by Doxa Partners LLP. It is aimed at year twelve students who are interested in studying these subjects at university and/or working in these fields.

Schools will have a range of time options to join an online round hosted on Zoom. The round will consist of two debates: one on a prepared motion (announced two weeks in advance) and one on an impromptu motion (announced 15 minutes before the debate) both around the theme of “Finance and Economics”.

Judging and feedback will be focussed on teams’ understanding of the key issues and their ability to explain these, their use of evidence and their engagement with the other sides’ points.

Debates will have three speakers on each side with 5 minute speeches and you may use the same speakers twice or use three different speakers in each debate. Up to six team members can be involved in preparing for the impromptu debate.

With the generous support of Doxa Partners LLP we are able to offer 8 free spaces to UK state schools and a prize of a finance taster session, either online or at their London offices.

Please complete a registration form to enter one or two teams from your school. Places are limited for this small pilot.

We are looking to run further Scholars’ Debates themed around different subject disciplines next year. Please email debbie@noisyclassroom.com if you have suggestions for a theme that you would like to see or if you are interested in supporting an event.
